Orville Amos Wade married Lavona Sullivan on August 14, 1948, but later divorced. His obituary from "The Dispatch" Lexington, North Carolina, February 7, 2006:
Orville Amos Wade, 81, of Brown Street, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at his residence.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at National Cemetery in Salisbury with graveside rites by the Rowan County Veterans Council.
Mr. Wade was born March 23, 1924, in Russell County, Kentucky, to Cassius Clifton Wade and Eppie (Rexroat) Wade. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and after retiring, he owned and operated a tractor and lawn mower shop. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lavona Sullivan Wade; his second wife; Betty Major Wade, and 11 brothers and sisters. (see note below)
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy DePoy of Geneva, Ohio, and Debra Ethan of Wickliffe, Ohio; one son, Larry Wade of Roaming Shores, Ohio; two stepsons; Jack Patterson of Charlotte and Glenn Patterson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a number of step grandchildren; one sister, Dorpha Heagle of Seymour, Indiana; and one brother, Herbert Wade of Russell Springs, Kentucky.
Note: The obituary was incorrect regarding the number of brothers and sisters. There was a total of 10 children including Orville Amos. Three are still living - Herbert, Dorpha and James. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters, Elvis, Arnold, Ivel, David, Arie, and Mary.
