J. F. SENEY (F891) page 580, Craig Co., OK History book

April 22, 1889, John Franklin Seney was one of the 50,000 waiting at the line for the opening for homesteading in Oklahoma Territory. He chose his site, drove three stakes and started to drive the fourth, when a man arose in the grass with a gun and said, "Me sooner. This is my land."
J. F. Seney returned to MO with praises of OK. He had walked all day and had not worn out his shoes! But he would not bring his family to this lawless territory until Oklahoma became a state.
In November, 1907, J.F. Seney and family came to White Oak, Craig County, by covered wagon, trailed by a colt and leading a milk cow. It took them three weeks to make the trip, including having to wait for Grand River to go down after a flood so they could cross.
Seney, a MO school teacher, taught at White Oak, in the old school located one mile west of the present town, for $3.00 a month. Later they moved to Big Cabin, where he and his wife lived the rest of their lives.
John Franklin Seney was born July 28, 1861 in Chariton Co., MO and died June 4, 1934, Big Cabin, OK. He was the son of Barton L. Seney, who was born 1829.
