Confederate officer. Graduated Columbian College, 1848; graduated Jefferson Medical College, 1851; Captain, Company C, 55th Virginia - June 2, 1861; major - May 1, 1862; Lt. Col. - June 23, 1862; Colonel - May 2, 1863. Severely wounded during the Seven Days Battles; prisoner at Falling Waters, July 14, 1863, exchanged March 1864. Retired March 14, 1865 to seek medical post. Physician and druggist in Middlesex County after the war. Superintendent of Schools. President of Medical Society of Virginia.
