T.P. Jones was named after Timothy Pickering of Massachusetts, Secretary of State under George Washington and John Adams.
Jones attended West Point where he was a roommate of Edgar Allen Poe. Jones was court-martialed and dismissed in mid-November of 1830 for refusing to attend classes and formations, his method of circumventing the academy regulation that no cadet could resign without written permission from his parents.
Robert Fenner's wife was Anne Marie Jones, sister of Timothy Pickering Jones and Jones was married to Robert's niece, Catherine Revel Fenner whom he married 21 Jan 1839 in Madison County, Tennessee. Even though he fought for Texas in its War for Independence, he owned property in Madison County, Tennessee and lived there off and on throughout his life.

Col Pick Jones Dead - Veteran of Texas Revolution and Friend of Sam Houston, David Crockett and Edgar Allen Poe
Seguin, Texas, October 19 - The death of Col. Pick Jones, which occurred at the home of R. J. Burges in this city at 8 o'clock last night, removes from this vicinity another old and distinguished citizen. Col. Jones was ninety years of age, a native of North Carolina, reared at Jackson, Tenn., a personal friend of Sam Houston and David Crockett; a class mate and room mate of Edgar Allen Poe at West Point, where he graduated in 1830-31. He was a first lieutenant in the Texas army in 1836, and heard the guns at San Jacinto, commanded a company in the Mexican war in 1846, and during the Civil War commanded the Sixth Tennessee regiment in the Confederate army.
