Daughter of Cyril Snyder and Harriet Davis; Wife of William Johnson.
Helen Louise Snyder the daughter of Cyril and Harriet (Davis) Snyder, was Born July 23, 1921 at Fulton, IL. As a young child she moved with her family to Sioux City, NE and to Sioux Falls, SD when she was nine years old. She was raised and educated in Sioux Falls.
Helen was united in marriage with William "Bill" A. Johnson on June 17, 1939 at Canton, SD. They settled on a farm south of East Sioux Falls. She lived for a short time in California while Bill was serving our country in World War II. They returned to live in Sioux Falls where she raised her four children; Phyllis, Terry, Bill and Pat. They moved to Brandon in 1953. In 1966, she began working in the lunchroom at Brandon School where she worked until her retirement as Head Dietician in 1986. Bill and Helen continued to live in Brandon, and have been married for 59 years.
She was an active member of Brandon Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Circle for many years, charter member and past president of the Brandon VFW Auxiliary, past member of the Moose Lodge and a Cub Scout Leader for serveral years.
Helen loved her family and the time she could spend with them. She loved the outdoors which included picnics, fishing trips, gardening and feeding and watching wild birds.
She had a passion for crocheting and enjoyed card playing and dancing.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, William "Bill", Brandon, SD; her son William "Bill" Johnson and his special friend, Roxie Demers, Sioux Falls, SD; her daughters, Terre "Terry" Brandt and her husband, Roger, Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia "Pat" Alexander, Sioux Falls, SD; her son-in-law, Gordon Brower, Mitchell, SD; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Brower; her mother and step-father, Harriet and Wallace Taylor; a sister, Phyllis Snyder; and a brother, Robert Snyder.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Brandon Lutheran Fellowship Hall following the committal service. The family request that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Brandon Lutheran Church.
