The teens were killed instantly Friday when something, presumably a hat, blew out of their convertible. The driver, Zachary Livingston, 18, of north Shelby County pulled to the shoulder and began to back up quickly when the front of his car fishtailed into the travel lane. The car was struck by a FedEx truck pulling twin trailers.
Livingston was killed along with Joel Swinford, 18, of Irondale; and sisters Stephanie Baker, 17, and Lyndsey Baker, 14, of Birmingham.
"The accident was a terrible tragedy. We do our best to be sympathetic and understand the grief that family and friends are going through," Davis said. "They can memorialize the lives of the teens in a safer manner."
