William Lanteau

Actor. A native of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, he is best remembered for his role as 'Chester Wanamaker' on the television series, "Newhart" from 1982 to 1990. He also appeared in the films, "L'il Abner" (1959), "The Honeymoon Machine" (1961), "Sex And The Single Girl" (1964), "The Harness" (1971), "The Art Of Crime" (1975), "From Noon Till Three" (1976), "Beat The Turtle Drum" (1977), "Happily Ever After" (1978), "Bungle Abbey" (1981), "On Golden Pond" (1981), "This Girl For Hire" (1983), "Cold Steel" (1987), "Shadow Of A Doubt" (1991), and the television programs, "The Wonder Years," "Murder, She Wrote," "Matt Houston," "CHIPS," "Cagney & Lacey," "Coach," "The Twilight Zone," "The Donna Reed Show," "Petticoat Junction," and "Ironside," among many others. He died from complications of open heart surgery in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 70. (bio by: K)
