Robert was born in McAlester, before the Drape Family moved to Morenci, Arizona,
where he grew up. In high school Robert was an All State Linebacker at Morenci High School. Shorty after graduating he enlisted in the Marines 5 July 1966, at a recruiting office in Phoenix, Arizona.
After arriving in Vietnam, Robert was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Robert and his platoon were carrying out a road sweep prior to a convoy run and were 4 kilometers east of An Hoa Airfield, when the platoon was ambushed by hostile forces. The platoon had 14 Marines Killed In Action during the ambush. Robert died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head and left leg from hostile rifle fire.
