Death: Oct. 16, 1864

Son of Oliver Lockwood and Sophia C. Lockwood.

John served as a Captain, Company F, 111th New York CPT, US Army, Civil War, 111th Infantry, New York Volunteers during the Civil War.

He was "Wounded In Action" during the battle of Gettysburg, PA.

He was "Wounded In Action" a second time during the battle of the Wilderness where he was also captured.

He was a POW at the Salisbury, NC prison in Aug of 1864.

He is believed to have been shot while attempting an escape during prison transfer from Salisbury to Danville, VA.

John is the namesake of Lockwood Post, GAR, #175.
