Could you correct the name? There was no Marshall Gray in Co D 61 PA Volunteers but there was a Maxwell Gray. He died in action at Spottslvania, Va May 12 1864.

He is one of my Grays. Could you also link him to his parents?
His father was William Gray memorial #36761477 His mother was Hannah Plants memorial #36761431

Thanks,

The following was recieved from historian Donald Pfanz at the cemetery after Howard Crawford's inquiry.

"I concur that Marshall Gray's headstone (#3253) should properly read Maxwell Gray. I have made that change to the national cemetery's digital roster so that anyone who subsequently comes looking for Maxwell Gray will be able to find him.

Because replacing historic headstones, even erroneous ones, with modern headstones would mar the historical appearance of the cemetery, National Park Service policy prohibits it. In the past, we have added corrected headstones that lie flush with the ground in front of ones that contain errors. That policy is currently up for review within the park, however, and whatever decision is made here will have to be approved by the State Historic Preservation Office in Richmond, all of which will take several months." dated 1/28/2013
