He was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Prattville, Ala., to Lorenzo and Rosie (Smith) Byrd. In his youth, Robert relocated to Dayton, Ohio, where he was employed by the City of Dayton Waste Collection. In 1960, he relocated to Anderson and was employed by the City of Anderson Water Pollution, where he retired after 30 years of service.
He was a member and deacon at Miracle Faith Temple. He was also a member of the Brotherhood. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and cooking along with traveling to visit family and friends.
Deacon Byrd is survived by his wife, Charlotte Byrd; five children, Jackie Martin, Clifford Byrd, Darryl Byrd, Randall Byrd and Robert Byrd Jr., all of Dayton, Ohio; and six stepchildren, Cassie Simmons Jr., Jean Johnson, Eliza Stokes, Dan (Danielle) Simmons, and Mary Simmons, all of Anderson, and Lou (Ruth Ann) Simmons, Fishers.
Additional survivors include sisters, Laurice Jordon, Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy Scott of Prattville, Ala., Clara Jones of Montgomery, Ala., Mary (Larry )Jones of Lake Wales, Fla.; brothers, Charlie Byrd, Hamilton, Ala., and Lorenzo (Belinda) Byrd, Winter Haven, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; special friend, Howard Fuller; and a host of other relatives and friends.
