William A. Troie
WALTHAM William A. Troie of Waltham died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge after a lengthy illness, at the age of 88. The son of the late Dr. Fortunate A. and Elisbella (Renfew) Troie, he was born in Portland, Ore., and spent his childhood living at the immigration stations where his father worked, including California, Diamond Head, Hawaii, Ellis Island, N.Y., Washington, D.C., Miami Beach, Fla., and New Orleans, La. In 1941, his family settled in Newton Highlands, where he met his future bride. Mr. Troie was a man of multiple careers and extensive travel. He retired in 1987 from the Minuteman Regional Vocational School, where he taught automotive maintenance for more than 11 years. He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Stumberg. Mr. Troie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn (Coleman) Troie; his daughter, Betty Jane Troie of Watertown; his son, William D. Troie of Sterling, Va.; his brother, Robert L. Troie of Eastham; and his grandsons, William B. and Bart D. Troie. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Reverend Dr. Milton Boyle will officiate a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11a.m., at the Beth Eden Baptist Church, 84 Maple St., Waltham. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Beth Eden Baptist Church. The Brasco and Sons Memorial of Waltham is assisting the Troie family with arrangements.
