William E. "Noody" Belvin, 85, a native of Gloucester County, died at his home on the York River on Jan. 9, 2000.
Noody attended Achilles High School and then began his working life on the York River as a waterman. In 1963 he began his own business, W.E. Belvin Real Estate. His dedication and commitment was first to his wife, Mablind, and second to his church and country, which he loved serving. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Achilles, and the Men's Bible Class. His many community accomplishments include membership of the board of supervisors for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993; former director, Region 1, for the Virginia Association of Counties; member, Chesapeake Bay and Rivers Association of Realtors; 50-year member, Achilles Masonic Lodge No. 281, A.F.&A.M.; member, Improved Order of Red Men, Sioux Tribe No. 9, Achilles; 50-year member, Khedive Temple of the Shrine, AAONMS, Norfolk; 50-year member, Royal Arch Chapter No. 59, Urbanna; 50-year member, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia, St. Johns, No. 57; charter member, Tidewater Shrine Club; charter member, Abingdon Ruritan Club; past chairman, Democratic Committee, Gloucester County; board member, Guinea Heritage Association; and member of the planning committee for the 350th Anniversary of Gloucester County.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mablind T. Belvin; two sisters, Elva Robins of Achilles and Dorothy Morey of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Union Baptist Church, Achilles, by the Rev. Dr. Dave Holladay and the Rev. Dr. Braxton Allport Jr. Private entombment will be held in the W.E. Belvin Family Mausoleum, Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
