Private, Company B, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Admitted to U.S. General Hospital in Portsmouth Grove, Rhode Island, in June 1864 for Rheumatism. At time of hospital stay, Orin was 44 years old and was married with four children. Address listed as Alboin, Erie County, Pennsylvania. Killed in action at Opequon, Virginia, on September 19, 1864.

His wife, Hannah, filed for a widow's pension on January 13, 1865, application number 78,989, certificate number 62,005.
