He was born July 23, 1948, at Muskogee, Okla., the son of Raymond T. and Frances M. Reed. He graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Junior College. A longtime Seattle resident, moving from Hutchinson, he was a self-employed carpenter; worked several years for Bethlehem Steel and then for 21 years as a machinist for Boeing Co.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Lender as a seaman apprentice.
In 1972, he married Mary Coleman. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, UnyssBenita Turner and Marie L. Reed; father, Raymond T. Reed, Hutchinson; six brothers, Raymond L., James A., Jerry E., Ronald and Roger R. Reed, all of Seattle and Donald Reed, Hutchinson; a sister Shirley A. Taylor, Hutchinson; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Southwest Mortuary, Seattle, with Pastor A.P. Barker presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Renton, Wash.
Memorials may be sent for the purchase of bicycle safety helmets for children, to the Hutchinson Recreation Commission, 17 East 1st, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
