Jeanne Warner Platt and her husband, Thomas Edward Platt, were the owners of the World War II canine hero,"Old Sarge" Major Von Luckner III. Sarge was a German Shepherd and served in the USMC. The sturdy 20-year-old pooch saved nine wounded men by dragging them to safety during battles and even wore a silver plate in his head, a souvenir of a wartime injury in the South Pacific: Tarawa, Saipan and Guadalcanal. He served for three and a half years and was wounded three times. He was awarded nine citations, including a Purple Heart with two clusters and the Silver Cross, which are displayed along with his dress blues, at the cemetery. He is laid to rest directly in front of the main building at Sea Breeze Pet Cemetery, and a decorated statue of him sits at attention off to the left. There is a shrine to him and a flag in his memory. He was a true hero.
The cemetery donated the plot, casket and marker. He was given a military funeral with an honor guard.
