Musician. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was a pioneer blues singer, songwriter and musician whom had a primary influence on the early development of rock music. In 1947, he wrote and recorded the epochal "Good Rocking Tonight" which was covered by many artist such as Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Pat Boone, Jerry Lee Lewis and Led Zeppelin. His other works included "Long about Midnight", "Rockin' at Midnight", "Hard luck Blues", "Let the Four Winds Blow" and "Party Doll". In the 1960s to 70s, he toured as a headliner at venues to include the Whiskey A Go-Go, the Monterey Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival and parts of Europe. He died of a heart attack in San Fernando, California, in 1981 and was posthumously inducted into Blues Hall of Fame that same year. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
