"If you're wrong, admit it, and when you're right, don't rub it in." - David Varnell
David has gone home to God. And all that was mortal of him has come home with us. His spirit is in Heaven and also in our hearts.
No desk ever made could hold him. Want to make him happy, give him a good horse and a fine dog, and plenty of room to ride in. Add a stream or a lake, a fishing pole, tackle and bait, and his joy would be complete. At work or at play, David was always happiest out of doors, under God's great skies.
He worked in the oilfields, first as a wildcatter, then as a mechanic. David could fix anything with wheels and not a few things that never had a wheel. He kept horses and dogs, cats, chickens, saddle mules, and once a goose. Then the goose began dismantling the front screen door, and the goose became supper.
David loved deeply but some people have trouble showing it, and David was such a one. He felt more comfortable with his beloved animals than he did people, but we never doubted he loved us. Shy, independent, stubborn (his Dad once exclaimed in awe "that boy's more stubborn than I am!"), David walked his own paths and stood on his own two feet.
You were taken from us far too soon, but you fought the cancer as long as you could, and when the time came, you said "no more" with grace and courage, secure in your faith in the Lord.
David is survived by his parents, his son, two stepsons, a stepdaughter, his brother, a sister-in-law, a grandfather, a niece and two nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
It hurts as bad as they say, but the Good Lord will send us no burden He won't also give us the strength to bear. Blessed is the Name of the Lord!
Thank you so much to all who have been so kind and thoughtful! Your prayers, notes and flowers are more appreciated than you can know.
A special thank you to the wonderful people at St. John's Hospice Care! You are surely Angels on earth!
A favorite of David's -
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, thought I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
and in His weeping
He joined Himself forever
to those who mourn.
He stands now throughout all time,
this Jesus weeping,
with His arms about the weeping ones:
"Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted."
He stands with the mourners,
for His Name is God-with-us.
