My Beloved Brother
Robert Ybarra was born November 4, 1949 in Sacramento, California to Serafin and Margaret (Dingman) Ibarra; he had two older brothers at home. When Robert was about six years old, the family moved to Arizona and lived there until 1967, when the family moved to California.
Growing up with Robert was lots of fun. He loved being funny, if he wasn't telling jokes, he would be doing something else to make you laugh. When we were children and got bored, Robert would think of something fun for us to do, like jumping on beds or pouring water mixed with detergent all over the floors and we would all pretend we were skating. Of course, our mother wasn't too happy about the messes we made. Robert taught me how to climb trees and shoot a sling shot, I enjoyed hanging out with him.
There wasn't a person who met Robert that didn't like him. In school, girls always had crushes on him, wanted to know him and would ask me to introduce them to him. Robert was a drummer in a band, with some of his friends, and played at school dances. The band broke up when we moved to California, but I will never forget my brother Robert playing the drums, the fun I had watching him.
After moving to California, Robert bought a motorcycle. He would give me rides to school on his "bike", and on Saturdays, my brother would take me to the local hamburger joint, and treat me to a hamburger, fries and a soda. Before long, our two older brothers would buy motorcycles too, and all three of my brothers would be riding around on motorcycles. All my friends thought my brothers were so cool.
My brother Robert had many hobbies, he loved Antiques and collecting them, fixing lawn mowers, collecting old coins, and fishing. When ever he could get away, he would go fishing, it was his all time favorite past time. When he would come over to my house to visit, he always teased me about going fishing in our Koi water pond. Once Robert came over with a catfish and put it into our pond, I don't know what became of the catfish, because we never saw it again.
Robert married and he and his wife had four children, two girls and twin sons. Later, Robert & his wife adopt four children, relatives of Robert's wife. Robert worked hard at being a good father to all eight children. During the raising of the adopted children, Robert's wife becomes disabled and Robert has full responsibility for his family. Robert was also disabled with a very bad heart condition and severe asthma.
When our parents became ill, Robert visited them everyday, and would help them in any way he could. He was a good son to our parents, and a great brother. He was always helping others.
Robert had been ill for a long time, he had his first open heart surgery when he was only 25 years old. In March 2006, he underwent his fourth open heart surgery. During the surgery, Robert suffered a stroke. The day before Thanksgiving in 2007, Robert's wife decides to terminate his life support and Robert passes away. Robert didn't want to be on life support & made his feelings very clear to every one before he had surgery.
Our loss, is Heaven's gain. I know he is in Heaven, with our mom and dad, our brother Stephen,(Stephen, lived only a day here on earth) and all the rest of our family that has gone on before us. I know this to be true, I will see my brother Robert again and he will be laughing and joking like always. Till then, I will hold all our precious memories close to my heart, forever and a day.
With Love, your sister, Rosemary
A Prayer for Robert
Eternal rest grant unto Robert, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May Robert rest in peace.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
In Jesus' name I pray.
In Memory of Robert
Always a silent hurt,
many a silent tear,
but always a beautiful memory
of one we loved so dear.
God gave us strength to bear it,
and courage to take the blow,
but what it meant to lose you...
no one will ever know.
