From the Nord Stern a German language newspaper of Stearns County Minnesota Thurs Oct 14, 1903. New Munich.
Last Sunday morning Mr. (Johan) Michael Hiltner, the oldest member of our parish, died here. Well supported by the final sacraments of the Catholic Church. The deceased was born 89 years ago in Irbach Bavaria Germany. In 1848, he came with his family to Cincinnati, Ohio where he stayed for ten years, then came to settle on a farm in New Munich, Minnesota where he has since lived, assembling as large circle of friends, who now join the family in mourning the passing of good father Hiltner. On Monday, the Rev. Michael Hiltner a grandson, Pastor of the church at Mt Carmel, ND, officiated at a solemn Requiem High Mass. Mr. Hiltner was consigned to his final rest on Tuesday morning, after a beautiful and moving eulogy by our Pastor Fr. Leo O.S.B. The deceased was accompanied by the members of the St. Joseph's Men's Society, of which he was a member, and a large body of mourners including his brother, George, his two sons John and Michael, and daughter Helen. May he rest in peace.
