Boris came to live with us as a kitten, picked out by daughter Claudine because he was the most energetic. At the time my wife Lac-Yee was not a cat lover, but that changed very quickly.
Boris was an enchanting, clever, and intelligent cat. When about six or seven, Claudine spent a day teaching him how to "shake". The training was done using ham, probably his favorite food, as a reward. Thereafter, when he was asked to "Shaaake", he would readily raise his paw, regardless of whether a reward was forthcoming. Sometimes he would jump onto my desk, look at me, raise his paw, and I could almost hear him say "Shake" to me. As to most cat owners, I began to feel that he had taught us some pretty clever tricks. He remembered this trick until his death. He also learned to open folding doors. He learned exactly where to push using his front paws to open the door. He did this completely on his own. Our other cat, Gorby, has never figured this out.
Boris was a very happy, affectionate, and loving cat. He never met a stranger. Last year during a visit to the vet, the doctor was unable to hear his heart because he was purring so loud. He finally had to give him a squeeze to stop the purring. And he loved visitors to our home. He would instantly greet them and make a lasting friend.
Boris became ill with a sinus infection in October. He also had feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which probably contributed. He didn't feel well enough to eat for four days, and passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday October 27, 2007. I know he is with my wife in heaven. She loved him so much.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
