Birth: unknown
Death: Apr. 15, 1912, At Sea

Erected in memory of the eight heroic musicians led by violinist Wallace H. Hartley, who played as they went down with their ship in the RMS Titanic disaster, April 15 1912. The original memorial was dedicated by H. Bowyer Mayor of Southampton, on April 19, 1913. It was located at the old Southampton Library that used to stand where the solicitors' office does today. The library was destroyed in 1940, by a bomb attack during the blitz of World War II. In 1990, a plaque was re-dedicated to the Titanic Musicians and a replica of the original memorial was unveiled at its present location in 1996. The memorial can be found on the side of the Municipal Mutual Insurance Building at London Road and Cumberland Place, Southampton, Hampshire. Of all the area's Titanic monuments, the Musician's Memorial ranks as third in attendance visited by thousands annually.
