Tamson was the third child of J. Elijah Chase and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Spragg. She married Stratton Penton Gilman on April 15, 1882 in Plover (Pocahontas County), Iowa. They had two living children; Orren Elijah and Lottie Mabel. Tamson died due to complications (rupture of pre-birth) of childbirth and the baby was stillborn. The infant was laid to rest in Tamson's coffin. Florence L. Chase, Tamson's cousin married Stratton after Tamson's death.
