Gordon enlisted in the Army on October 8, 1941, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" when the jeep he was driving hit a mine and killed him instantly during the war. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
