Friends and family of 14-year-old Justin Ames, who died Aug. 27th when he was struck by a San Bernardino County sheriff's patrol car responding to a disturbance call Aug. 22nd. Witnesses told the family that Justin's attention was caught by the first of two patrol cars that whizzed by and he failed to notice the second following closely behind. It was the second car that struck him.
Justin was born in Montclair and died on his first day of high school at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino.
His biggest interests mostly revolved around his bike, doing tricks and working on it with friends. He had a girlfriend and he liked the adventure of going with his dad to repossess cars.
Adding to the sadness of the occasion, Justin's parents, Stacy McCombs and Seamus McCormick, had set a wedding date of Sept. 13 before the accident.
The wedding has since been postponed, perhaps until sometime in December, McCormick said.
In addition to his parents, Justin leaves three brothers, Brandon McCombs, 23, and Christian Hunter Ames, 20, both of Highland, and Joshua Lidikay, 17, of Louisiana; a stepbrother, Robert McCormick, 15, a stepsister, Angelica McCormick, 11, and his maternal grandmother, Jan Dyer, all of Highland.
