|Death: ||Aug. 30, 1865|
Benson was the son of Andrew & Susannah (Houck) Kerr. On May 27, 1852 he married Miss Martha Perkins in Gallia Co., Ohio and together they had six children; Mary Francis, William Benson, Florida E., Tartus Monroe, Price S., and John Wesley Kerr who was sadly born just seven days after his father's death.
Benson was in the Civil War, joining Sept 15 1862, and was transferred to 193rd Reg. Co. B O.V.I on Feb 20th 1865. He was mustered out May 16, 1865, probably due to injuries or illness. He died in 1865. The story goes that Benson developed "bealing" where his knapsack rubbed his armpit. He died within three months of returning home from Baltimore. The cause of death was probably an infection which couldn't be controlled.
