Mary G. "Trudy" Mattox, 76, Peru, died at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at her residence. She was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Clay City, Ky. to James H. and Nannie Mae Hall Spencer. She was married to Alva "Matt" Mattox on June 15, 1946, in Plymouth; he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2001.

Mrs. Mattox graduated from Powell County High School, Powell County, Ky. in 1943. She and her husband owned and operated Matt's Friendly Market in Peru from 1946-1961. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Peru and a member of the United Methodist Women and Dukes Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Robert) Tanksley, Owasso, Okla., Carol (John) Butler, Radcliff, Ky., and Jane (Gary) Edwards, Peru; two sisters, Norma J. (Leland) Gossett, Logansport, and Ima Jean (Virgil) Ashley, Clay City, Ky.; one brother-in-law, Roger Baker, Stanton, Ky.; six grandchildren, Angie Shipman, Robert and Nicole Tanksley, Chad and Jeff Butler, and Gregg Edwards. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three brothers, Howard, Homer and Kenneth Spencer, two sisters, Betty Frances Baker and Hildreth Rogers, and one granddaughter, Kelly Edwards.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Main Street United Methodist Church, Peru, with Pastor Steven Ailes officiating. Visitation is Friday, July 11, 4-8 p.m., at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Main Street United Methodist Church.
