MARY EVA MARIE STAYTON THURMAN

d/o John Wesley & Nancy Catherine (Hendrickson) Stayton. M: Bert Thurman Mar 27 1894,
one child, Nancy Ruey Armilda Thurman. Note: Bert was born as Thoroughman, changed his name shortly before marriage.

Obit from The Bates County Democrat:
MRS. EVA THURMAN
Mrs. Mary Eva Stayton Thurman was born August 31, 1875 and departed this life at her home in the Aaron community on December 30 1932, being 57 years, 3 months and 30 days of age.

She was born in Kacy county Kentucky and came to Missouri with her parents at the age of seven years. She was converted and united with the Christian church at the age of fifteen years and lived a faithful life until death came.

She was united in marriage to Bert Thurman, March 27, 1894. To this union one child was born. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Eva Wells, in May 1929.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Bert Thurman, one daughter, Mrs. George Wells of Aaron, her aged mother, Mrs. J. W. Stayton, one granddaughter, Lucille Wells of Aaron, one sister, Mrs. Lula Hedges of Aaron, three brothers, William Stayton of Aaron, Ray Stayton of Detroit, Michigan and Welby Stayton of Great Falls, Montana, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Thurman was a woman of many excellent qualities, always happy in any work that had for the object the good of the community. She was always ready to respond to the cry of distress and was well known in her community for her help with the sick and afflicted.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles McGraw at the Aaron Methodist church, Saturday afternoon, and burial was made in the Peter Creek cemetery, under the direct of Arnolds, Creighton undertakers.

'Servant of God well done
Thy glorious warfare's past
The battle's fought, the race is won
And thou art crowned at last.'

CARD OF THANKS:
We wish to extend our thanks to our many friends and neighbors for their assistance and sympathy extended to us during the illness and following the death of our dear wife and mother, Mrs. Eva Thurman
Bert Thurman
Mr. and Mrs. George Wells and daughter.

(Note: Eva's husband, Bert, was born as Albert "Bert" Thoroughman. It is thought he changed his name to Thurman not long before his marriage.)

There is a curbed plot for the family, dousing indicates there are at least three unmarked graves within, or if there were markers they have been covered with sod.

Note: While first name was Mary, she was only called "Eva", entered here as Eva Mary Marie for search convenience.
