|Birth: ||Jun. 18, 1929|
|Death: ||Dec. 12, 2000|
Lois Finkbeiner Herbold, age 71, of Stanford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center due to complications of cancer.
Lois was born on June 18, 1929, south of Grass Range to Leslie and Dorothy Finkbeiner. She completed high school at Grass Range, and then attended Eastern Montana College in Billings.
On Nov. 14, 1947, in Billings, Lois was united in marriage to Lester Herbold. The Herbolds lived in Grass Range until 1957, when they moved to Ryegate, followed by a move to Stanford in 1963, where they remained.
Lois served as Judith Basin County Treasurer for many years until retiring in 1995. Following her retirement, she was convinced to take a seat on the Stanford City Council. She remained involved with the Judith Basin Republican Party until the last month of her life. Her goal was never to be politically active, but to be a public servant. Lois much preferred being with her family to being in the public eye. Lois enjoyed her family, crocheting afghans, cooking, collecting cookbooks and public service. Family dinners, hunting trips, and camping trips to Spotted Bear on the South Fork of the Flathead River were high points in her life.
A good wife, a good mother and a good public servant, Lois will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband Lester of Stanford; her parents, Leslie and Dorothy Finkbeiner of Lewistown; two sons, Joe (Charlotte) Herbold of Jordan and Dennis Herbold of Stanford; one daughter, Leslie (Jim) DeWitt of Kalispell; and five grandchildren, Hayley and Heath Herbold, Heidi (Kevin) Rendina, Cassandra DeWitt and Charity DeWitt and two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Brianna Rendina; in addition to a sister, LaVerne Boettger of Grass Range and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Lois Herbold will be held at the Creel Funeral Chapel in Lewistown on Friday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. Inurnment will take place at the Lewistown City Cemetery on June 18, 2001.
Memorials may be designated to the Central Montana Hospice. Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
