The Holt County Sentinel, October 25, 1940 TO THE REAR MARCH **25 Years AGO**
He was an extensive dealer in livestock up to a few years of his retirement. He went to New Orleans in the fall of that year and went through the cholera and yellow fever epidemics of 1848-1849, He was a victim of cholera and was cared for at the home of George Beeler in New Orleans. Later Mr. Beeler came to Holt County and died here in 1875.
On January 31, 1850, he married Mary J. Curtis, a daughter of James Curtis, Sr. and they went to Buchanan County, where they lived until 1865 when they again came back to Holt County on the present farm in Hickory Township, where they have since resided and the farm has since his retirement, been conducted by his son, Thomas. They were the parents of nine children, seven of whom, with the mother, survive. Thomas and James of Holt County, William of St. Joseph, Mrs. Charles Brigham of St. Joseph, Mrs. Eliza Randolph of Rulo, Nebr., John of Okmulgee, Okla. and Georgia (George) of Coner of Alene, (Coeur d'Alene) Idaho.
