Lemhi Herald, Feb 7, 1907:
Another Pioneer Gone
John Yearian of Sunfield, departed this life yesterday, aged 90 the 8th day of last August. He was one of the most highly respected pioneers of this county, having been with A. M. Stephenson, the first two white settlers in the upper Lemhi.
Deceased was born in Ohio, Early he moved to Illinois, and in 1869 came to this valley, where he was ever since residing, excepting two years '89-'91, which he spent in the state of Washington. He had been feeble for quite some time, but the immedtiate cause of death was pneumonia.
"Uncle John" Yearian was extensively connected in this valley. He leaves two sisters, Mrs Abram Lipe of Sunfield, and Mrs Sarah Tucker of Ava, Ill., and one half brother, Henry Yearian of Junction, who survived him, He was a brother to the now deceased husband of Mrs Elizabeth Yearian, and uncle to Mrs Dr. Whitwell, Thomas H Yearian, Gilbert F., Albert J. and John W Yearian, and Jos. H Fannin. He leaves also several children and grandchildren. His sons are, Z. B. Yearian of Dillon, Robert G. of Junction, and Alpha of Sunfield. Mrs Ed Patton of Junction, Mesdames Len and Sidney Staley of Washington, are his daughters all living. E. M. Yearian, the former Indian agent, now of Dillon, is his grandson.
John Yearian was for the last 65 years a steadfast member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was early ordained as a local preacher and in former years has often conducted services on the upper Lemhi. He was true to the faith, and lived a thorough Christian life. He leaves a great host of friends and neighbors who join with the relatives in mourning his departure. His remains will be buried at Junction.
