Claus Kristian Randolph Clausen
Birth: Dec. 9, 1869
Death: Dec. 23, 1958

Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Denmark, he served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as a Coxswain. He was awarded the CMOH for his role in the intentional sinking of the "USS Merrimac" at the entrance to the harbor of Santiago de Cuba, on June 2, 1898. His citation reads "Despite heavy fire from the Spanish batteries, Clausen displayed extraordinary heroism throughout this operation". His Medal was awarded to him on November 2, 1899. He was cremated at the Fresh Pond Crematory and Columbarium in Middle Village, Queens, New York City, New York, and his ashes were returned to the sea. (bio by: K)
