Funeral services for Dr. Vernon C. Turner of Evanston Ill., will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Sunset chapel of Donelson, Sewell & Hammack Mortuary. Dr. Turner died unexpectedly of a heart attack Saturday.
He was born Sept. 19, 1907, at Banks and spent his early years at Laurel and near Hillsboro.
Dr. Turner, a graduate of Hillsboro high school, received his bachelor's degree at Pacific University, did graduate study at the University of Washington and received his medical degree from the University of Oregon Medical school in 1936. He interned and took his residency at Wisconsin General hospital, Madison, Wis., specializing in orthopedics.
After a short time in Milwaukee, Wis., he and his family moved to Evanston, Ill., where he had been head of the orthopedic department of the Evanston General hospital. He also served on the staffs of the Chicago Shrine hospital for crippled children and the Hines Veterans hospital in Chicago. He was an associate professor of orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
He was married Aug. 29, 1931, to Jacquelline B. Honeywell in Portland. He is survived by his wife and four children, Lucinda, Stephen, Catherine and Tom of Evanston; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Winona) Russell, Mrs. Herbert (Leah) Westerman, and one brother, Glenn Turner, all of Hillsboro.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday morning at the First Congregational church in Beaverton.
Vault interment will be at the Fir Lawn cemetery, Hillsboro.
