Atto served as a Private First Class, 44th Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 2, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Single, without dependents.

Atto was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
