Mr. Larry Wayne Crawford, 68, died Thursday night (November 17, 2011) at Memorial Health in Savannah from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross where he was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church but was currently attending Jamestown Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 until 1969, and the United States Army from 1970 until 1977. He was discharged as a sergeant who had served 4 tours during the Vietnam War having received numerous service awards. His awards included 4 National Service Medals, 3 Vietnam Service Medals, 4 Leaf Medals, 1 Silver Star, 4 Bronze Stars, 4 Purple Hearts and 2 Good Conduct Medals with the Navy, and 1 National Defense Service Medal, 1 Vietnam Service Medal, 1 Silver Star, 1 Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Good Conduct Medal with 2 Loops, and 1 Sharp Shooter Rifle Badge with the Army. Following his service to his country, he finished up his college education and eventually became a truck driver for Tri-State Trucking Company.
He was the son of the late Monsie Crawford, Sr. and Gladys Griffin Crawford. He is preceded in death by his step-mother, Blanche Beverley Crawford; two brothers, Charles Ray Crawford and Monsie Crawford, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Fleming Melton.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette McQuaig Dean Crawford of Waycross; two step-children, Pamela Ann Boatright of Waycross, and Elbert Eugene "PeeWee" Dean (Betsy) of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, Kailey LeaShay Kicklighter (Justin), Hayden Dean, Ashley Dean, Corey Dean, Zach Boatright, Cheyenne Felkel, Chance Felkel, Bethany White, Jordan Watson, Dawson Reynolds and Paris Smith; six siblings, Ralph Crawford (wife Loraine), Geneva Melton, B. J. Crawford (wife Reecy), Bobby Crawford (wife Ocie), Jerrell Basile, and Venita Schwartz (husband Paul); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday (November 21, 2011) at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in High Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Music Funeral Home.
