Mrs. Estelle Dowling Dinkins, 82, of Waycross died Sunday morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Her husband, Weamon Dinkins was also critically injured in the accident.
She was born in Pierce County to the late Arthur Dowling and Mittie Banks Dowling. Her mother died at when Estelle was 12, she was then raised by her father and step-mother, Aurelia Dowling. She has resided in Waycross for most of her life. She worked for Rubin Brothers and also Concerted Services. She was a charter member of Jamestown Baptist Church where she taught GA's. She was also a member of the Wakefield Temple Pythian Sisters where she was Grand Chief. She enjoyed gardening, baking cakes and doing anything she could for her community.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her mother since age 12, Aurelia Dowling, a grandchild, Benji Strickland, great grandchildren, Jamie Dinkins, Dillon Dinkins, Anthony Dinkins, a great great grandchild, Leslie Humpries, and a sister, Jeanice Lynn.
Mrs. Dinkins is survived by her children, Patsy Watson and her husband Harry of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Jimmy Dinkins and his wife Edwena of Kingsland, Georgia, Audrey Chapman and her husband Wayne of Waycross, Ruby Pierce of Waycross, Carolyn Brockington of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Elizabeth Hanzi and her husband Keith of White Oak, Georgia, Clifton Dinkins and his wife Carolyn of Virginia formerly of Waynesville, 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, her sisters, Louise Mitchell of Jekyll Island, Georgia, Katie Crews of Hoboken, Kathryn Altman and her husband Kennon of Hoboken, Maggie Ruth Bohannon of Hoboken, Sybil Muise and her husband Richard of Boston, Massachusetts, Latrelle Kozar of Little Rock, Arkansas, her brothers, Randall Dowling and his wife Carolyn of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Robert Dowling of Waycross, Tom Dowling and his wife Winkie of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Leroy Thrift and his wife Mary of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
