Mr. Weamon Dinkins, 88, of Waycross died Sunday evening at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Dinkins wife, Estelle Dinkins was also critically injured in the accident.
He was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Robert G. Dinkins and Mary Ann Varnadore Dinkins but had resided in Waycross for most of his life. He worked for the Brunswick Shipyard as a welder, Rubin Brothers, and Scapa Dryer in the maintenance department. Mr. Dinkins was a charter member of Jamestown Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was also a member of the Knights of Pythias.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded by a grandchild, Benji Strickland, great grandchildren, Jamie Dinkins, Dillon Dinkins, Anthony Dinkins, and a great great grandchild, Leslie Humpries.
Mr. Dinkins is survived by his children, Patsy Watson and her husband Harry of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Jimmy Dinkins and his wife Edwena of Kingsland, Georgia, Audrey Chapman and her husband Wayne of Waycross, Ruby Pierce of Waycross, Carolyn Brockington of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia, Elizabeth Hanzi and her husband Keith of White Oak, Georgia, Clifton Dinkins and his wife Carolyn of Virginia formerly of Waynesville, 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
