WHIL's Rhoda Myers dies at 40 By KIM LANIER
Rhoda Baldwin Myers, director of development for WHIL-FM 91.3, died Tuesday at her home. She was 40.
Myers, who was expecting her second child, was found dead of natural causes at her home in Mobile, according to relatives.
Dr. Leszek Chrostowski, a medical examiner with the Mobile office of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, said autopsy results are pending but preliminary findings indicate Sheehan's Syndrome, which involves necrosis of the pituitary gland, may have been the cause of death.
The unborn child, a girl who would have been named Amanda Elizabeth Myers, didn't survive, according to relatives.
Myers had been with Mobile's non-commercial public radio station since 1992.
"Our first thoughts are for her husband, Bryan, and her son, Nicholas, and her family," said WHIL general manager Jeff Stoll. ''Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. It's a major loss for WHIL. Rhoda was not just a coworker but a true friend of everyone on the staff at WHIL. She will be sorely missed."
Stoll credited Myers for being innovative as she supervised the station's fund-raising activities.
"It is a substantial loss for WHIL, both organizationally and because she was a friend to all of us," Stoll said.
At WHIL, a National Public Radio affiliate station providing fine arts and informational programming to south Alabama, northwest Florida and southeastern Mississippi, Myers supervised and coordinated fund-raising, promotion and public relations activities. She also edited the station's newsletter, Airwave.
A 1981 graduate of Shaw High School, she attended the University of South Alabama, where she received her bachelor of arts degree in communication arts in 1986 and her master's of arts degree in communication in 1998. She was a charter member of USA's Theta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bryan Allen Myers; one son, Nicholas Allen Myers; and her mother, Mable W. Baldwin, all of Mobile; and her brother, Mancil Baldwin of Birmingham.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. The funeral is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church on Grelot Road. Burial will be in Gainestown Cemetery in Gainestown, Ala.
