Rev. Rufus Nathaniel Yancy, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Woods Memorial Hospital.

He was a soul-winner for Christ, pastoring for more than 13 years in Tennessee and Minneapolis, Minn., and working in prison ministry, until his health began to fail him. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was retired from General Motors after working more than 16 years as a line supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ruby Yancy; and one son, Darnell Yancy.

He leaves to champion the fight for souls to Christ his wife and help-mate of 23 years, Kathleen Yancy of Etowah; two children, Durant and Angela Yancy, both of St. Louis, Mo.; four stepchildren and two spouses, Quanita Clark and Allen Todd and Katie Grant, all of St. Paul, Minn., Lisa Lynn Holmes of Apple Valley, Minn., and Scott and Jessica Grant of Athens; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Ratliff and Barbara Baker, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren Denton officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery in Knoxville with military honor guard.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation by friends will began after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
