Country Music Artist. Born Franklin Delano Reeves, he learned guitar by borrowing his brothers' instruments and was a local radio star by age 12. After service in the US Air Force, he moved to Nashville and began recording for Decca Records. His first chart single was "Be Quiet Mind" (1961). He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1966, known as "The Doodle-Oo-Doo-Doo Kid" because of his number 1 hit "Girl on the Billboard," (1965). He remained at the Opry for more the 30 years as a showman and entertainer. He was also an accomplished songwriter, penning songs for Little Jimmy Dickens, Carl Smith, Rose Maddox, Wanda Jackson and Jim Lauderdale who he later did duets with. In 1979, he became a music executive and was credited for bringing Billy Ray Cyrus to attention in Nashville. In his 40 year career he recorded over 30 albums, hosted the Del Reeves' Country Carnival on television and appeared in several feature films. He died of emphysema. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
