They had been digging with their brothers, who left, and when returning, found the cave collapsed, and assumed the smaller boys had left their play. One of the older boys began digging for his lost bucket and James Peeler's brother came across his brother instead.
North side of the United States Experiment Farm - over the fence from the public road and about a quarter mile from the buildings.
The father of the Leavell boy was in New Mexico and the rest of the family had been in quarantine. The mother of Peeler was overtaken by grief and required hospitalization. She was employed at the United States experiment farm.
Newspapers misspelled Leavell as Leavil.
Burial record has "Belmear Leavell": stone has incorrect year of death. Anyone with more info on the correct name etc please contact.
