Elliott Eugene entered the service (Marines) in March 1944 and trained at the Marine Base in San Diego. He then shipped out on the U.S.S. Nevada [BB36]. He was with the Marines at Iwo Jima, and then Okinawa where he was wounded while in a turret when a Kamikaze suicide plane attacked (March 27, 1945). Gene was later awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Before that, he was a student (and Football Player) at Hanford Union High School in California.
