"Gene" served in the US Marines 1943-1945, Pacific Fleet. He lived in Corcoran, Hanford, Porterville, and Aptos, California. He was married to Jean Lucille Lewis "Beck" of Fresno County, CA; and they had 2 children. "Gene" was named Elliott Eugene Bishop -- "Elliott" after his father, "James Elliott Bishop", and Eugene after his father's older brother, "Henry Lugene Bishop".

Elliott Eugene entered the service (Marines) in March 1944 and trained at the Marine Base in San Diego. He then shipped out on the U.S.S. Nevada [BB36]. He was with the Marines at Iwo Jima, and then Okinawa where he was wounded while in a turret when a Kamikaze suicide plane attacked (March 27, 1945). Gene was later awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Before that, he was a student (and Football Player) at Hanford Union High School in California.
