I believe Cytha is a daughter of William Henry and Sythe/Seth Combs Payne, who moved to Missouri from Christian County, Kentucky in the late 1830's. Adult children of the Payne's included in the move were Ennis Sanford (buried in Cass County, MO) and Harriet Boatright Payne, and Narcissa Berdit Payne and husband Mount Aetna Morris, both also buried in Morris Cemetery.
Soon after moving to Missouri the parents, William Henry and Sythe, were drowned crossing the Lamine River in Cooper County (gravesite unknown), according to the obituary of Narcissa. Cytha would have been about 10 years old at the time of their deaths.
Narcissa's obituary says she cared for two sisters and a brother after their parents died. I think Cytha is one of the sisters. I am quite sure the brother was Elbridge Gary Payne, who went on to be successful in the dry goods business in St. Louis, and is buried at FeeFee Cemetery there.
Cytha's last name is listed as Morris in the Cass County, Missouri record of her marriage. It is possible she is an unknown daughter of Narcissa and Mount Aetna Morris. It is said there were nine Morris children, and to this point only eight birth children have been identified. Her birth in 1829 would fit in between the ages of the first two children known. If she isn't a birth child, I'm sure Narcissa and Mount Aetna considered her a daughter, and may have formally adopted her. Cytha's middle name is Ann, and a Morris daughter was named Anna Liza. I don't think it is likely they would name two daughters with Ann in their name, but of course it is possible.
