Birth: 1814, Germany
Death: Jun. 2, 1895
Zanesville

Wilhelmina was probably the daughter of a John Eckman who immigrated from Germany or Switzerland to the Ernst Colony in Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL. There she married Aaron Allen Swank on 12 May 1834. From there Wilhelmina and Aaron traveled probably down the Mississippi river to Memphis. then crossed into Crittendon County, Arkansas. There they had at least five children: William D. Swank, Arkansas E. (Swank) Milner, George Swank (76th OH inf., company C), James Swank, and Florence Acadia (Swank) Forrest. Her husband Aaron died in Arkansas in 1849 and she had to return to Muskingum County, Ohio where his family lived and her children were placed with family members to help raise them. Wilhelmina remarried 16 Sep 1852 to George Werts but he died in 1866. In her last will dated 8 Jun 1891 she signs her name as Wilhelmina Swank. You must have had a hard life, Wilhelmina. I know you went to court to keep your children, but did not succeed. Things were different in your day.
