Burril B. Fine, 82, of Sylvania Township, died on June 9, 2011. A physician by trade, Burril was a teacher by instinct. To know him was to learn from him, whether about one of the subjects collected in his vast intellect or about character and the moral principles that guided his life. Burril is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilynn; his four children, Mark, Anita (Minard), Paul and David; and his 10 grandchildren, Aubrey, Julia, Kenyon, Keaton, Matthew, Jessica, Derek, Eleanor, Benjamin and Kenneth. Born in Montreal on March 2, 1929, Burril was the son of the late Adolph and Minnie Fine and the brother of the late Gloria Rosenberg. He was a graduate of McGill University and the University of Montreal School of Medicine, he interned at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and he served his residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Burril was a student all of his life. He taught himself a number of foreign languages, and the impressive book collection he amassed and so loved was as eclectic as was his search for knowledge. Burril loved music, particularly (but not exclusively) classical. Burril's most intense focus was always his children and grandchildren. A man who lost his own father when he was nine years old, Burril was an extraordinary father and, later, grandfather. He and Marilynn built a family based on great love, support, loyalty and humor. Throughout his life, Burril cherished friendship. Particularly in his later years, he was fortunate to build wonderfully close friendships with a number of men who helped fill his retirement years with intellectual exchange and companionship that was extraordinarily important to him. Burril chose to donate his body to UTMC for the advancement of medical education and research. His family will celebrate his life with one another and friends at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at The Temple Congregation Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania, Ohio. The family asks that anyone wishing to make a contribution in Burril's honor consider a donation to either the Senior Independence Hospice (5810 Southwyck Blvd. Suite 101, Toledo, Ohio 43614) or The Vista School Capital Campaign (1249 Cocoa Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033-1715). Burril's grandson, Kenny, is a student at the Vista School, a school for children with autism.
