Ruth A. (Fischer) Halldorson, 96, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Century Assisted Living in Carbondale. In honor of her wishes, Ruth's body will be donated to SIU School of Medicine, and there will be no visitation or services. Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Century Assisted Living Center, Activities Department, 701 S. Lewis Lane, Carbondale, IL 62901; or to VNA-Tip Hospice, 702 Chestnut St., Murphysboro, IL 62966. Ruth was born Oct. 24, 1914, in New York City to John and Frances Caroline (Ehrlich) Fischer. She married Elmer E. Halldorson in 1935 in Boulder, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jeanette "Jeanie" Halldorson of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mike Hinds of Centennial, Colo.; grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Antoinette "Toni" Halldorson of Florence, Ky., and Laura and Tom Bechtel of O'Fallon, Mo.; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Ashley and Nicolas Halldorson and Mackenzie and Layton Bechtel. The family wishes to thank the staff at Century Assisted Living and VNA-TIP Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
