John Walter Duer, 61, went to live with Jesus from his home on Tuesday, May 10th, 2011, after a long fight with cancer. He was born June 19th, 1949, to John and Nan Jean Duer in Elgin, Ill. He attended Elgin schools in District U46 throughout childhood, and graduated from Elgin High School in 1968. Following that he attended Bradley University. John loved sailing, and he took pleasure in creative and restorative projects. He worked in office supply sales and retail throughout his career, and his attitude of conscientious service was exemplary in this. He was involved in music ministry at The Orchard Evangelical Free Church. John is loved by many and survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters, Deborah, Elizabeth, Danielle and Christina; and by his grandchildren, Amara, Laela and Gabriel; as well as his sister, Jean Muntz of Elgin, Ill., and brother, Bob Duer of Palatine, Ill. John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jenny Rowlett. His body has been donated to science through the Anatomical Society of Chicago. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14th, at The Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 N.
