Iris Rose Ott Olsen was quite a lady who was loved for her sweetness and admired for her talents by all who knew her. She left this world on December 14, 2008 after a battle with cancer.

Rose was born in Tropic, Utah on July 12, 1915 to James Robert Ott and Janet Matilda Johnson Ott, the 10th of 11 children. It was a close, warm, and loving family who helped shape her sweet nature.

At 17, she graduated from Utah High School of Beauty Culture and successfully practiced that art for the rest of her life. She married her sweetheart Garn Jay Olsen from Spring City, Utah on June 4, 1936 in Provo, Utah (at the jail, no less) and later that year solemnized it at the Manti Temple on August 28, 1936. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many callings in the different organizations and enjoyed serving. She lived most of her married life in Richfield, St. George, Salt Lake City and Orem, Utah.

Sweet Rose was an artist in the true sense. Her art was in many different medias - crocheting, quilting, candy making, sewing, cooking, hair styling, and with her sense of humor - but the talent the family loved best was her way with children and babies. She made everyone feel loved and appreciated. Her leaving has left a hole in our hearts, but we know that she is at a happy reunion and no longer in pain.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her parents and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Blaine Fredrick Olsen (Furlann Smith) of Highland; Garna Deane Johnson of Orem; Sally Kaye Delnort of Orem; Diana Rose Tucker (Larry Reed Tucker) of Jerome, Idaho; Daniel Charles Olsen of Mesa, Arizona; her brother and sister: Wallace Moses Ott (Mary Ann Cassidy Middleton) and Agnes Johnson Littlefield of Tropic, Utah; 23 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sharon Park 6th Ward Building, 150 East 600 North in Orem, Utah, with a viewing prior to the services from 11:00-11:45 a.m. On Friday, December 19, 2008, friends may call at Walker-Sanderson Mortuary at 646 East 800 North in Orem, Utah from 6-8 p.m.
Interment and dedication of the grave will be held at the Orem City Cemetery following the services.
