William Henry McClelland
Birth: Jan., 1835
Edgefield County
South Carolina, USA
Death: 1909
Bulloch County
Georgia, USA

William Henry McClelland (McClendon/McLendon/McClindon/McLindon/McLenon/McLeod, etc.) was born in January of 1835 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He was a farmer and Confederate veteran. The son of Taltern and Avery McLindon, he had four siblings. He came from Edgefield County, South Carolina to Bulloch County, Georgia where he married Mahitable ("Hattie") Cone McClelland, and they had six children: William Madison McClelland, Sula Frances McClelland Glisson, Mary J. McClelland, Alice E. McClelland, Narsissie A. McClelland, and Palmer P. McClelland Chaplin. He enlisted in Company B (the Banks Partisan Rangers) of the Georgia Cavalry, 21st Battalion, who guarded the South Carolina coast from attacks and landings, but most of William's Confederate service was fulfilled by a substitute, B. E. Ferguson. Later the 21st Battalion became part of the 7th Georgia Cavalry who marched north to Virginia. William died at about age 75 about 1909 in Bulloch County. He is buried at Old Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, near Ivanhoe (Briar Patch), Bulloch County. His grave stone was added decades after his death. His ancestry was Scots-Irish. I hope one of his descendents will add his photo to this site.

Thanks so much to descendent, granddaughter Nevada McClelland Bell, for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions.
