Statesboro - Mr. Thomas Reginald Newsome, age 80, died Friday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1944 graduate of Georgia Teachers College and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1947. He retired from Brooks Instruments in 1984 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Kiwanis Club of Statesboro, the Georgia Southern Boosters and a former member of the Bulloch County Golden K Kiwanis. Mr. Newsome was an active member of the Langston United Methodist Church where he served as the chairman of the Board of Trustees and a past president of the Bulloch County Methodist Men's Club. He was an active bowler with the Bulloch County Men's Bowling League.

Surviving are: his wife of 58 years, Jewell Clifton Newsome of Statesboro; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James A. and Rebie Newsome of Statesboro, Joel and Doris Newsome of Smyrna, Ga., and Jack Newsome of Tequesta, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Muriel C. Morton of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five nieces, Betty M. Jackson of Chattanooga, Tenn., Martha M. Frizzell of Memphis, Tenn., Lynn Lanier of Statesboro, Jana N. Gilbert of Statesboro, and Kay Newsome of San Antonio, Texas; three nephews, William W. Mee of Newark, Del., Jay Newsome of Statesboro, Ga., and Wendell Newsome of Smyrna, Ga.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Blalock, the Rev. Fred Maddox and the Rev. Jay Williams officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
